Carnegie Mellon University - Skibo Café

Pittsburgh, PA

Dubbed "Skibo Cafe," this 3,000 square foot space includes a kitchen and dining space for 100 students, faculty, and staff. The design concept is flexible and able to accommodate Au Bon Pain, the university's contracted food service provider for this location.

A study of contemporary design with classical proportions, Skibo Cafe has an open atmosphere condusive to the academia lifestyle. Students looking for a comfortable study spot can situate themselves at the reading chairs by the windows, where soft but ample lighting (and perhaps a cup of coffee) will keep them refreshed. A paper roll attached to the community table provides opportunities for impromptu brain-storming with piers. The variety of seating arrangements accomodates for individuals and groups alike, whether they be there to compare notes from class or have a bite to eat.
