In 2013, Bridgeway Capital purchased 7800 Susquehanna in Homewood – a mostly vacant 5-story, 150,000 SF industrial building originally constructed by Westinghouse Electric in the 1920’s. Bridgeway completed the first phase of renovation, constructed by Sota Construction and Ma’at Construction Group, to provide new leasable space for artists, light manufacturing, and maker start-ups, in order to create jobs and encourage economic development within the neighborhood. Now with 7800 nearing max occupancy and several additional adjacent properties under control, Bridgeway selected our team to implement a community engagement process to develop a Master Plan for this portion of Susquehanna Street.

Leading the master planning and community engagement was Urban Design Associates. They teamed with LGA Partners for architectural design, and Merritt Chase for landscape architecture & green design. Together this team developed a Master Plan and Feasibility Study for 7800 Susquehanna Street Neighborhood. After months of meetings with community leaders, residents, city representatives, and tenants of 7800, conceptual designs were unveiled last week. The Susquehanna Master Plan includes neighborhood connections, streetscape Improvements, green infrastructure, landscape improvements, community gathering spaces, and new buildings to provide additional space for business start-ups to grow.

LGA was delighted to participate in this collaborative process with the Homewood community, Bridgeway Capital, UDA, Merritt Chase, Operation Better Block, RDP Consulting, Grand View Development, and the City of Pittsburgh. We are thrilled with the result and are eager to see how these ideas are further developed and implemented.
